Ultimate Photography Productivity

"Geeze, Heather! You're superwoman!"

That's what a friend told me as we were catching up on the phone the other day. I find it hilarious because I certainly do not think that one bit! But my friend was convinced that it was true, especially after I shared with her the things I had been working on and strides I have recently made in my business.

I'm certain I'm no "superwoman" but what I am is FOCUSED on my goals.

There's a big difference. I do not do everything (no one can!), but I am clear on my most important tasks and I am committed to prioritizing them every day.

So not only have I photographed amazing clients this year, I've also supported hundreds of photographers in my mentorship, I've created new marketing funnels for my business, I've written one, two, THREE books and I also homeschool my kids. And that's all within the last 8 months!!!

What's amazing is that I don't work evenings or weekends. I've been able to enjoy more time off, quality time with my family and things like learning how to play the guitar just for fun.

You might be asking: How in the world is that possible? And it was these circumstances that led my friend to call me "superwoman." Her words....again, not mine.

There is nothing "super" about what I'm doing. Really what it all boils down to is PLANNING.

Funny thing, I never used to be a fan of planning. I'm naturally more of a go with the flow, spontaneous type of person so I have definitely have had to work on building a habit of consistent planning....but boy oh boy, has it been worth it!

I could teach a whole workshop on planning your weeks so that you are consistently hitting your goals out of the park and creating a business that you are proud of, but for now, I'll simply share two questions I ask myself every week that has allowed me to be more productive and grow my business.

First, let me state how important it is set aside a time every week, just 20 minutes or so, where you can review and evaluate the past week. You can make it fun by going to your favorite coffee shop or wine bar!

But when you have that weekly routine in place, ask yourself these questions:

  1. What is one mistake or lesson I learned this past week? This question allows take an honest look at what you could have done better. There is no shame. We are human and we will mess up at times, but we become better and our businesses becomes better when we can learn from our mistakes.

  2. What can I do this week that will make the following week easier and more productive? This is really eye opening. It will shed light on the little things that don't matter in the long run that you may be spending too much time and energy on. It will also help you recognize the few key tasks that will help you grow more strategically and set your business up for long terms success.

There's a lot more that I do in my weekly recap and planning sessions, but these two questions are a great start.

Cheering you on!
Heather
