5 Social Media Posts for Photographers
I was talking to one of mentorship students the other day. She was expressing a concern I think we can all relate to.
My student was sharing how she knows she needs to be active on social media but she struggles with knowing what to say. Not knowing what to post stresses her out, which then leads to her avoiding social media altogether (with the exception of mindlessly scrolling)!
Can you relate?
Yup, I thought so. It's common issue among us photographers. We know we need to be active on the 'gram to attract photography leads but all too often, we find ourselves in the "I don't know what to post!" trap!
Let's put a stop to that together, ok?
I was able to direct my mentorship student to the exact lessons in our program that would solve her problem and we also came up with very doable posting schedule for her.
And even though you are not yet in our mentorship (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), I still want to share a few tips when it comes to creating content for your social media so that you can attract your ideal photography clients.
Though this isn't an exhaustive list, here are five different kinds of content you can create for the Instagram world:
CONTENT TYPE #1: Address Your Client Questions + Objections
What have your prospective clients and paying clients asked you over and over again? Do you commonly get questions about what to wear for sessions? Or about the products you offer? Or about when it's the best time to hire you?
The frequently asked questions that your current client base asks you makes great social media posts! You can answer the questions they have before they even ask them!
CONTENT TYPE #2: Celebrate Your Wins + Your Client Wins
The cool thing about this post type is that it doesn't even have to be photography related. Sure you can celebrate when you get that chic studio downtown or when one of your portraits wins and award, but you can also create posts around yours and your client's personal celebrations! Think birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, engagements, and more!
CONTENT TYPE #3: Behind the Scenes
We all know that we spend about 10% of our time as photographers with cameras in our hand! But what's happening the other 90% of the time? Share on social media your website updates, how you edit, how you package client gifts, your office space, your gear and backdrops, what it's like at a session and more! Give your prospective clients a better idea of what all goes into running your photography business!
CONTENT TYPE #4: Social Proof + Testimonials
If you're anything like me, you may have a hard time talking about yourself! It can feel awkward to say how awesome of a photographer you are (even though it's true)! This is where past client testimonials come into play. Show off what others have said about you. After all, people do what people do so if you can showcase your past clients enjoying your photography experience and photos, more people will inquiry!
CONTENT TYPE #5: About You
Your Instagram followers decided to follow you for a reason. Sure they like your work but they also want to get to know more about the photographer behind the camera. In these kinds of posts, you can share more about what you do when you're not photographing, like your kids, spouse, other hobbies, travel, etc! Often times, these "About Me" posts tend to get the most amount of likes and engagement!
Save this blog and refer back to it whenever you are tempted think that you don't know what to say!
Cheering you on!
