7 Ways to Earn Higher Sales from Your Portrait Clients

As a portrait photographer, you can earn over $1000 from your portrait clients.

You can double, triple or even quadruple what you make per portrait client with a few shifts all the while having happy, raving clients who will refer you out!

But maybe you're only charging a few hundred right now. Or maybe you're totally unsure of how to go about the In Person Selling process to get sales beyond $1000.

If that's you, here are 7 ways to earn higher sales from you portrait clients!

  1. Smoother your website and social media with the products you want to offer your clients. It should be completely obvious that you offer products. Not only that, but take the time to share the pros of each product and how they can be displayed and enjoyed for years to come in your client's home.

  2. Remind your clients of your product offers every chance you get! Personally, I have and I teach a 9 step process on how to educate and empower your clients for the ordering appointment so that they come to it knowing exactly what they want and ready to spend!

  3. Share pricing information with clients on the very first consultation call. If you want them to spend, you must inform them of at least starting prices and average order sizes. This way they can adequately prepare.

  4. Offer same day viewings. Instead of sending a digital gallery for clients to pick from or waiting a week or two to meet back up for an ordering appointment, challenge yourself to host a same day viewing. This means your clients get to view their photos and select their products the same day you had the photoshoot! Doing this one thing increased my sales average by over $1000 without having to up my prices! People will pay more for speed and convenience.

  5. Simplify your product menu. If you've researched printing labs at all, you know that they offer A LOT of options. But just because the labs you use offer 327 products doesn't mean you need to! In fact fewer product options is better. Your clients will feel less overwhelmed with fewer options and thereby making their decisions so much easier. Personally, I only offer 4 products: Keepsake Boxers, Signature Albums, Luxurious Canvases and Storyboard Collections.

  6. Stop comparing yourself to the shoot & burn photographer down the road. In every area, you will find a photographer doing sessions cheaper than you. That's OK. You are not competing against them. If you try to, it's simply a race to the bottom. Sure there will be people who prefer cheaper. But there are also people who prefer the done for you high end feel. You won't find Ruth Chris Steak House trying to compete with the local McDonalds and when has Gucci ever slashed their prices because Walmart offered the same color handbag? Stop focusing on the competition and instead focus on serving your clients well.

  7. Invest in the products you offer your clients for your own home. If you were to walk into my home, you'd find prints on the walls and albums on display because I truly value what I do as a photographer. I have taken my own hard earned dollars and invested in my own family's portraits and also the products throughout my home. If you want your clients to do the same, take the lead and print out a large canvases or an album of you loved ones to display in your home. This will allow you to speak from personal experience when you are helping your clients select products for their home.
